Fahim says efforts afoot to increase exports

Fahim says efforts afoot to increase exportsKARACHI: Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim said he is satisfied with the two-year performance of Trade Ministry and his ministry is making efforts to increase the volume of national exports.

Responding to a question at the concluding ceremony of Expo Pakistan 2010 at Karachi Expo Centre, he said he had sought a performance report of all commercial councilors of Pakistan working abroad for the last one year.

"I have asked the Secretary Commerce to call the performance report of all commercial councilors of Pakistan as to what they have done in the last one year. Whether they have facilitated Pakistani businessmen and whether they have helped the country in getting market access for Pakistan."

He said the commercial councilors would be called here to attend a meeting in Islamabad where businessmen and exporters of Pakistan would also be invited. This meeting would be held when these reports were finalized.

The business community would have the opportunity to make complaints whether they were properly entertained at Pakistan commercial offices abroad.

The minister said that the performance report of these commercial councilors would be assessed and their future postings would be made on the basis of their performance.

He said Expo Pakistan would help exporters to further expand their exports.

On this occasion, TDAP chief said the US government would add 10 to 15items for Pakistan in the preferential trade agreement.

Later, the minister gave away performance awards to the exhibitors.
