IMF wants early appointment of Pak finance minister

NEW YORK: International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stressed Pakistan to appoint its new finance minister soon, Geo News reported Monday.

According to a US-based newspaper, a senior IMF delegation raised the issue relating the appointment of new finance minister in a meeting wit the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani last week.

‘The IMF delegation told the PM Gilani that they hope a credible person would be appointed soon,’ said the official, who was present at the meeting.

It should be mentioned that former Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin tendered resignation on February 23. However, the PM asked the minister to continue working until a new minister is appointed in his stead.

Meantime, the IMF announced to give loan worth $11.3 billion to Pakistan.
